Twitter Etiquette: Keeping your Coffee Fundraiser classy.
Twitter Etiquette for your Coffee Fundraiser.
Like most things in life, there is an etiquette shared among the general population regarding Twitter and it’s tweets. Some might say there is no twitter etiquette at all. Those same people probably eat with their elbows on the table, chew with their mouth open, and don’t open doors for ladies. Whether right or wrong, this list has been comprised for our partners to note some of the Do’s and Don’ts of Twitter as you share your Coffee Fundraiser Site and promote your coffee with a cause.
Feel free on comment on other unmentioned faux pas.
Post variety (Updates, quotes, information, questions)
Review you “Followers” and see who you should follow
Don’t abuse someone’s Twitter Handle, aka Username. (“Because they have a big following” isn’t a good reason to use their handle)
Don’t bombard your followers with promotion tweets.
Encourage, share, and connect. Stay Positive.
Leverage Twitter to give away free stuff. (Not necessarily Twitter Etiquette, but who doesn’t like free stuff)
Don’t post more than 140 characters.
Don’t Direct Message total strangers.
Don’t yell or argue. Not very professional
Don’t post every 6 secs. Leave room for others.
Etiquette, not the Law.
As you will probably notice, @phoenixc_coffee isn’t perfect, nor do we always abide by the rules. However, having a few guidelines as you tweet can help make you more polite and professional.
Living Proof.
The photo above came through today from @WellspringLivin. Though the tweet was generated through their blog, you can see how they directed their message to coffee drinker, used hashtags to denote a focus, linked to their Coffee Fundraiser Site, and taged us (which we gratefully retweeted).
Twitter Etiquette, #FAIL.
Sometimes, the best way to learn is make mistakes. Note the repetition in our own promotional tweets…FAIL.
Godspeed,
Phoenix Community Coffee
